Is a permit required to organise an Online Raffle?
If you are running a raffle in Ireland for charitable purposes, you must adhere to the regulations put in place by the Gambling Regulation Act of 2024.
The regulations lay out certain requirements that must be met for a raffle to be considered charitable, and limits that require a permit to exceed.
Here are the details you need to know to determine if your iDonate raffle requires a permit or not.
What are the permit requirements?
The limits that a charitable raffle cannot exceed without a permit are as follows:
- The organiser does not make a personal profit from the raffle
- The total value of the winnings does not exceed €2,000
- The minimum ticket price is no more than €5
- No more than 1,500 tickets are purchased
- The organiser has not run a similar raffle in the last 3 months
How do I get a permit?
If you expect to exceed the limits outlined above, you will need to get a permit for your raffle.
To do so, first get in contact with your local Garda station. They will be able to advise further on which permit you need and how to acquire it.
